"Fanar," meaning "lighthouse" in Arabic, is a painting inspired by a quote shared with me by my mother: “Lighthouses don’t go running all over an island looking for boats to save; they just stand there shining” by Anne Lamott. At the time, I was reflecting on the strength found in stillness. I wanted to capture the lighthouse as a symbol of quiet resilience. The texture of the light, created with a palette knife, draws the viewer in, reflecting the guiding power of simply standing firm. The piece conveys the message of enduring strength, reminding us that sometimes our presence alone is enough.
