About

Mireille Botros is a British-Egyptian self-taught painter based in Saltaire, Yorkshire. She delves into the connection between human emotions, colour, and the expressive human form. Working primarily with oils, she employs vibrant tones to breathe life into her subjects, ranging from portraits and figures to still life and animal compositions. Her work conveys personal narratives and profound emotions, aiming to resonate with viewers through shared experiences and moments of vulnerability. Mireille’s intentional use of colour captures mood and energy, transforming her struggles and experiences into relatable, emotive creations. She seeks to build a sense of connection, encouraging viewers to reflect on their own emotions.

Disillusioned by her career-driven life in London, Mireille took a break from her banking career to travel and reflect on her true passions. During this period of exploration, she discovered an untapped talent for art, which had gone unrecognized during her first 30 years.

Her artistic journey began in 2020 when she joined a Charcoal Drawing Course in Leeds. Later that year, she studied in Florence, Italy, where encouragement from her professor inspired her to deepen her artistic exploration. In 2021, Mireille pursued an oil painting course in Cairo, Egypt, where the self-taught artist Yehia Osama and a supportive community of painters encouraged her to embrace painting professionally.

Mireille’s journey as a self-taught artist reflects her courage to break free from societal expectations, embrace creativity, and build a life centered on passion and artistic expression.
